| From: JW.Smith@chron.com To: texmex@texasmexico.com, ahrc@ahrc.com Cc: Jim.Townsend@chron.com, Jack.Loftis@chron.com, Tony.Pederson@chron.com, Subject: Houston Chronicle threatens Metro legal action Date: Sun, 27 Feb 2000 19:49:06 -0600 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ms. Geneva Kirk Brooks - Publisher Metro Media News Ms. Elizabeth McMahon - Publisher AHRC News Services Thank you for follow-up e-mail and letter to Mr. Jack Loftis, Executive Vice President and Editor. I appreciate you taking time to bring the Carrie Hunter e-mail to our attention. Carrie Hunter is a supervisor in HoustonChronicle.com Customer Service. She has no editorial authority. Her function is to supervise two online Customer Service Representatives. The three individuals are responsible for forwarding e-mail to the appropriate departments and for sending a response when a reply is appropriate. Our Customer Service section receives over 2500 e-mails each month and every e-mail must be read thoroughly. As you can imagine, some solicitations we receive are clearly spam and we generally reply with a standardized response. Indeed, this response illuminates legal remedies for spam. However, I talked to Ms. Hunter today, who agreed she should have forwarded your mail to the Editorial department instead of sending you our anti-spam reply. I apologize for the problems that Ms. Hunter's unofficial Houston Chronicle response has caused you and your organization. Certainly, we intend no legal action. We have taken steps to be sure an incident such as this does not happen in the future. J W Smith Subscriber Services Manager |
