HELP!

From Stanley Fiala Editor

The following is a reprinted message from our friends in American Homeowners Resource Center:
DEAR HOMEOWNER FRIENDS

Please write California's Governor Gray Davis to Restore Homeowners Right to Companion Pets by signing AB860 when it goes to his desk this month.

American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) and Assemblywoman Helen Thomson have worked hard for several years to restore homeowners right to pets.

The homeowner association lawsuit industry (CAI) opposes your right to pets. CAI wants total contol of homeowners so they can keep churning out lawsuits to take away savings and homes.

CAI lawyers and vendors are bankrupting associations, homeowners and snatching homes. CAI and their lobbyist Skip Daum have been collecting money from associations and paying politicians who help them hijack your rights. They misrepresent the effects of bills.

This bill "lists several associations" as opposing the bill. AHRC's experience has been that these "several associations" are in fact merely association managers or individual board members who lobby with the CAI industry without the knowledge or consent of the owners. Association managers and boards do not have a right to vote on new legislation on behalf of the homeowners.

Do write Assemblywoman Helen Thomson's office and Governor Davis in support of this bill.

This bill will restore to owners in homeowner associations and mobile home parks the right to keep pets.

PLEASE VOTE YES ON AB 860

Thank you for your previous letter of support for Assemblywoman Helen Thomson's legislation to ensure that homeowners who live in condominiums and mobilehome parks are entitled to keep a companion pet. I'm pleased to inform you that AB 860 passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, August 7th, after sitting in the committee for more than a year.

The bill will soon be taken up on the Senate Floor, and it should arrive on the Governor's desk by August 31st. There remains strong opposition to the bill from mobilehome park owners and a number of homeowners associations.

Both claim that the bill unnecessarily micromanages their businesses. They have stated that they will now focus all their attention on "forcing a veto" from Governor Gray Davis.

We need you to send a letter of support for AB 860 to Governor Davis.

Please do so as soon as possible and be sure to send our office a copy of it. We'll hand deliver an extra set of support letters when he has the bill.
